[Jan. 14th, 2009|07:15 pm] |
i have three crates of mandarin oranges in the office.
i should;-
a) start selling them to foreign workers b) eat 3 oranges a day, it'll only take you a month to finish three crates! XDD c) wait for them to start rotting, and then desmond would stick them in the freezer, after which it will magically transform into mandarin orange sorbert d) others (please specify in comments) |

| Japan Holiday, Japan Curry? |
[Dec. 20th, 2008|01:23 am] |
was previously planning a trip to japan next year to tokyo and kyoto. because i was totally inspired by the photos jasmine, aslah and tash were posting, i started surfing the net for more information, and then i got totally absolutely derailed by THIS.

that, by the by, is the opening image for national geographic's feature on basho's trail. essentially, basho is a famous -- possibly the most famous -- japanese poet who wrote both prose and haikus detailing his journeys.
just go to the link below and click on any name on the map and be awed. http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2008/02/bashos-trail/bashos-trail-interactive.html
i can't decide what is more lovely, the lovely green moss-covered trail from shurakawa, or the mist-clad mountains of haguro? i just have this insanely strong urge to go see these places for myself. but obviously i can't do the entire circuit -- basho took 156 days, traveling on foot, the Nat Geo author took close to a month to complete that trail, and i'm... contemplating maybe one week, centered around just one or two areas?
...
this requires a lot more thought and planning.
possibly over food. ( speaking of which... ) |

| Much Ado About Odex |
[Aug. 15th, 2007|07:44 pm] |
was just chatting with aslah about the fact that parts of the flist has been in an uproar recently over Odex's rather heavy-handed pay-me-or-i-sue mentality.
( Possible Defenses; or 'So You Think You'll Be Receiving A Letter From Odex soon' )
edit: Was reminded of something Eric Flint wrote, for the Baen free library here
Read it.
Particularly this part, "The only time that mass scale petty thievery becomes a problem is when the perception spreads, among broad layers of the population, that a given product is priced artificially high due to monopolistic practices and/or draconian legislation designed to protect those practices. But so long as the "gap" between the price of a legal product and a stolen one remains both small and, in the eyes of most people, a legitimate cost rather than gouging, 99% of them will prefer the legal product."
As far as I know, Baen published books are still selling strong, in spite of them putting selected titles out for free. So, I'd say his arguments are pretty convincing.
edit 2: also, unlocked this post. it's public now. go forth and spread! |
